Driving instructors instruct newbies on proper driving techniques and habits. Some also provide special lessons on driving commercial vehicles such as box trucks. If you’re working as a driving instructor, consider purchasing insurance. You can hurt someone while teaching a student how to drive a cargo van. Negligence is another problem that you have to think about too.
You must invest in driving instructor insurance to protect against liabilities for your business on and off the road. Read this guide to know what policies are included, the cost of premiums, and the best companies:

General liability insurance can be an excellent policy addition to driving lessons insurance program. It covers liability costs for third parties for personal, property, and bodily injury. The policy can also cover any property damage to these same parties. Examples include:
A client’s electronics get damaged in your office
Your client slips and falls on your driving instructor's business property
You say something untrue about a client, and they sue you for slander
General liability insurance generally has a coverage limit between $300,00 and $1 million.
Your driving instructor insurance average cost for general liability coverage will be around $43 per month or $500 annually.
Driving instructor insurance companies offer ways to customize your insurance policy through additional policies like:
Employment practices liability–Protects you from employee lawsuits that accuse you of workplace harassment, wrongful termination, and other related issue
Product and completed operations liability–Gives liability protection for incidents away from your business premises
No. You do not generally require general liability insurance to maintain a driving instructor business. However, general liability insurance can prevent you from a costly lawsuit with the potential to bankrupt you.

Driving instructor professional indemnity insurance is a policy that protects you and your driving instructors when they make a mistake as a part of their job. Situations to use this policy include:
A driving instructor provides the wrong instruction and causes the client to get into a fender bender
The business owner makes a scheduling mistake that causes a client to lose money
Professiona liability insurance for driving lessons can offer an extended reporting period add-on for your professional liability coverage. This add-on allows you more time to file your claim.
Another add-on to consider is an excess liability insurance policy. This will let you extend your driving instructor's professional liability insurance coverage limits.
Coverage limits for professional liability policies average around $1 million per occurrence. Your driving instructor insurance cost will be higher if you need a policy with a higher limit.
Professional liability is an important policy you want to take advantage of. You may be tempted to only look for cheap driving instructor insurance without the protection of professional liability insurance. However, going cheap can bite you later when you run into an unexpected and costly liability.
You never plan on making mistakes, but they can still happen. The best plan is an insurance policy to give you peace of mind for your business. The lawsuits that professional liability insurance can protect you against can potentially bankrupt your business.
Driving instructor public liability insurance is policy coverage that only includes third-party injuries from the general public. This policy covers incidents when the public enters your commercial property. Some situations where you can use this policy include:
While on a driving instructor trip, a pedestrian gets injured
Someone enters your property and slips and falls on a poorly placed rug
Public liability insurance typically has coverage limits of $1 million per occurrence and $2 million in aggregate. These coverage limits will change based on your policy.
No. Public liability insurance is part of general liability insurance. A public liability insurance policy is unnecessary if you already have a general liability insurance policy.

A commercial property insurance policy protects your business, building, and personal property. See below for a few example situations where you might use this coverage.
A thief breaks into your commercial property building and vandalizes it
A flood causes damage to the electronics in your driving instructor building
The best driving instructor insurance will offer typical commercial property coverage limits of about $60,000 or more. This coverage limit is determined by the value of your business building and the property stored in it.
Debris removal coverage can be a good pick for your policy because it allows you to get reimbursed for cleanup costs from insured events like a building fire
Earthquake insurance protects your property from landslides and earth movement-related physical damages
Sadly, even the best commercial property policies will have some exclusions. Any property damage from your negligence will be excluded from commercial property policies. This rule includes termite damage, rusted pipes, and poorly maintained facilities.

Highway driving instructor insurance must have liability and property protection to protect your business successfully. A business owner's policy is an excellent option with general liability and commercial property coverage.
It can be a superb pick for a less expensive policy. Bundling policies with a business owner’s policy often costs less than buying multiple separate policies. Examples include:
A customer slips and falls on your business property
A thief breaks into your office and steals your electronics
You have a client whose property is damaged during your driving lessons
Business owner's policy gives you around $500,000 on average, though driving instructors may want a higher coverage limit of around $1 million.
Some business owner’s policies allow you to include inland marine insurance. This policy protects your business property, like tools and materials, as they are transported to you or different locations over land. This protection also extends to property that is in a business's care.
Consider cyber liability insurance, which protects you against perils from data breaches, cyber security attacks, and telling customers their data has been accessed.
Gap insurance for driving instructors is additional coverage for financed vehicles. Sometimes, you will owe more on your loan than your car is worth. This situation sometimes happens because of the depreciation of the value of automobiles over time. Some situations gap insurance comes in handy include:
A car covered by your business crashes, and you owe more on the car than it is currently worth
Your auto loan has a remaining balance, and your car is totaled
To calculate gap insurance refunds, you divide the total cost of your insurance by the number of months you had the coverage. Gap insurance refunds only apply if you pay for the policy upfront.
Gap plans are not worth it if you buy your item or vehicle outright. They only are valuable if you are financing your property.
Driving instructor car insurance companies offer commercial auto insurance that protects your business vehicles from damage and you from liability. It will also include liability coverage for accidents your vehicles cause. Some situations to use this insurance include:
A business vehicle you own gets into a collision incident
Someone steals a business vehicle you own
Driving instructor car insurance is generally made up of several different policy options, which are outlined below:
Comprehensive–A comprehensive policy covers damages to your business vehicle from theft, fire, vandalism, and many events besides road collisions
Collision–This policy will cover your car’s damage in road collisions. It will help pay for the costs to repair or replace your vehicle after considering your deductible and coverage limits. It’s different from liability coverage because it only covers your car
Auto liability–Your auto liability coverage will help pay to repair or replace someone else's car if you are at fault for causing an accident on the road. The best car insurance for driving instructors will offer coverage for property damage and bodily injuries at a competitively low price
Underinsured motorist–This provides coverage when another driver is at fault, but their insurance policy isn’t enough to cover the damage
Rental reimbursement–You get reimbursed for the rental costs you incur when renting a vehicle
Roadside assistance–This policy covers costs to tow and fix your car when it breaks down on the side of the road
Medical payments–You can use medical payments coverage to help pay medical costs for drivers and passengers. It will pay benefits regardless of who is at fault in the accident
Commercial auto coverage limits range between $100,000 and $1 million for liability protection.
The cheapest car insurance for driving instructors will be a policy with low coverage. In some states, you can meet coverage requirements without insurance. For example, you only need to pay an uninsured motorist fee of $500 annually to satisfy Virginia's insurance requirements. However, going cheap is not a good idea. While saving money in the short term, you risk a big lawsuit or other cost in the long term.
Your driving instructor insurance quote for commercial auto is affected by driving habits, coverage limits, and which deductibles you choose. If you want a better premium quote, you can also sign up for installing anti-theft devices in your vehicles. These devices help insurers save money on coverage costs.
Workers' compensation insurance is a policy that an employer buys that protects workers by providing medical benefits and lost wages when injured. Examples of times to use this policy are listed below.
An employee falls while on the job and can only work at a reduced capacity
A driving instructor often develops chronic pain from being in a car
Your employee gets into an accident that leaves them disabled and unable to perform their previous duties
Most states require businesses with full-time employees to purchase a workers’ compensation policy. This law ensures that workers can earn an income even if they become temporarily or permanently disabled from activities on the job. Some types of employees, like independent contractors, are not required to be covered under state laws. To get protection, these employees would need a separate policy.
The beneficiaries of worker’s compensation are employees, but employers or business owners pay for the premiums. Employees who want to get their own insurance policy to protect themselves from debilitating injuries should get disability insurance. A disability insurance policy can protect them from injuries on and off the job.

This place is an absolute joke of a company and should be ashamed of the way they conduct business. I was hurt on the job at the end of July and it took them just shy of 7 weeks to issue out a paycheck to me. Yes the amount was back dated but still. Not many have the luxury of not receiving a paycheck for almost 2 months. To top it all off, the original adjuster marked me down for the wrong state which caused a problem from the get go, I've had 3 different adjusters now since each one can't seem to figure out the simplicity of my claim. All my paperwork which includes, my job, house, and drs visits all are from the same state and city but yet some how I have been filed under a completely different state 1500 miles away. They do not answer your phone calls or emails no matter how many you leave. I've had to escalate my frustrations to the supervisors of each of these individuals in order to even get some kind of response. I've had more communication and information given to me about my claim from the customer service representatives then the actual adjusters.......... please tell me how that works?! A serious overhaul needs to happen here in order to serve your clients the way they deserve to be taken care of. 10/10 do not recommend this company to a single soul on earth
I have never had the displeasure of working with a more incompetent and disrespectful person in my life. I’m an injured worker and the adjuster that was assigned to my case was named Carrie Furgeson. In the past 6 weeks that I’ve been injured and out of work I have only been able to get ahold of her twice, not for lack of trying. I have left countless voicemails, countless emails, and she ignores them all. When I am finally able to get ahold of her I’m greeted with terrible customer service. She is rude, she talks over me and I’m hardly able to get a word in edgewise. She spelled my name wrong on my documents even after I spelled it for her properly countless times, this caused a whole new issue with my bank. I have bill collectors from the hospital calling me demanding payment and Carrie Furgeson won’t do a single thing to help, or to get them paid. All of my documentation is in Colorado, my job is in Colorado, my address is in Colorado, all my Dr offices and appointments have been in Colorado and Carrie still managed to hold my claim because she wasn’t sure what state she needed to file it under. It’s been 6 weeks since my Injury and my company still hasn’t received the wage paperwork to fill out so they can get me my correct wages. When she’s not ignoring me she’s answering my questions with “I don’t know” well I don’t know how she got this job, because apparently she doesn’t know anything about it. She is a disgusting morose individual inside and out and I genuinely wish her the worst in all of her future endeavors. I highly recommend you don’t use this company. Please if you are a business owner and your looking into this company please don’t use them. I’m sure they have the cheapest payment and that’s why companies use them in the first place, but you will be doing your employees a grave disservice by forcing them to venture into this absolute dumpster fire of a company. I would rate 0/5 if possible but 1 was the lowest I was allowed.
