As you provide your translating services, you interact with the clients. During these interactions, some accidents may happen. For example, the client may slip and fall in your office, or you may accidentally damage his property, such as his laptop. A client may sue you successfully for the above issues. General liability insurance covers such costs. This insurance offers coverage in issues relating to customer property damage, customers' injuries, personal injuries, and copyright infringement.
Some insurance companies offer their clients add-ons to general liability insurance for interpreters and translators. Add-ons are coverages offering extra protection that is not provided by the basic coverage. One which you can get as a translator can be data breach coverage which can cover you from costs relating to the theft of customer information. You can go also avail HNOA coverage.
As you advertise your business, you may copy a slogan or provide wrong information about your competitor. The affected persons may sue for compensation; general liability for interpreters and translators covers such costs. If you are launching an advertising campaign, this cover can be valuable.
Public liability insurance works the same way as general liability coverage minus the add-ons. This is sold instead of general liability in the UK. On the other hand, only a few insurance companies sell this in the USA.

There are some errors and omissions that you may do. For example, you may fail to deliver on time, or you may make errors in your work, and as a result, your client may sue. Professional indemnity for interpreters covers costs arising from such errors and omissions. This policy covers professional negligence, work mistakes, and undelivered services.
Professional indemnity for translators has a $1 million-$2 million coverage limit. It’s possible to get higher amounts of coverage. But note that this will drastically increase monthly or yearly premiums.
Some of the extensions to the basic interpreter liability insurance coverage that you can get from your insurer include;
Vicarious liability-covers your business from professional liability arising from the works of your sub-contractors.
Witness expenses- Covers cost for compensating witnesses that aid in your defense when a client sues you.
Legal defense costs
Professional indemnity insurance for interpreters can allow you to add an insured to your policy. This means you can extend your insurance coverage to another person or company. Therefore, if a client sues the other person or company, they can file a claim with your insurer. Note that some insurance companies allow you to name additional insureds on your professional indemnity insurance for translators without cost while others aren’t as generous.

Your tools are prone to theft, loss, or damage. You may suffer monetary losses and miss specific deadlines when your tools are damaged, lost, or stolen. However, you can prevent this by getting tools and equipment insurance. Some of the covered costs relating to this insurance include;
Replacement–Your insurer can reimburse for the tools you need to replace by reimbursing with the fair market value of the lost item
Lost income–The policy can cover costs for the income you did not earn when an item was unavailable or lost
Repair–When the tools are damaged, the policy can cater to the repair costs until they are usable
Typically, this policy doesn’t have add-ons. It is because, usually, this type of insurance is an add-on to general liability insurance and commercial property insurance.
Commercial property insurance only covers the tools in your inventory or tools in a covered location. Therefore, commercial property insurance doesn't cover against risks involved in transporting such goods. The tools and equipment insurance is helpful to cover the risks involved when moving your tools and equipment from one place to another.

As a translator, you have your office, which has business-related contents, such as your tools and office equipment. These things can be vandalized, stolen, or destroyed by fire or water. It would help if you got commercial property insurance to prevent monetary losses from injuring your business. The policy can cover the repairs and replacements of your office items in the event of loss or damage by the aforementioned perils.
Business interruption insurance is also a part of commercial property insurance. Business interruption insurance covers lost income if you can't operate your business due to property damage covered under commercial property insurance.
There are three ways in which insurers value commercial property:
Actual cash value–They calculate how much it would cost to replace an item without considering how much it depreciates
Replacement cost value–They calculate how much it would cost to get an item similar to the one you need to be covered
Fair market value–They look at the item's cost by considering its depreciation

A business owner's policy (BOP) is a policy that combines general liability and commercial property insurance. It takes care of most of the common risks your translator business may face. It is essential to note that a BOP is cheaper than getting the two coverages separately. The BOP will safeguard against; customer injury, advertising injury, customers’ property damage, and damage to your business property.
You may customize your BOP by adding cyber-liability insurance. The insurance may help protect sensitive data. Also, some insurance companies can allow you to bundle a BOP with professional liability insurance, saving you more.
Please note that only some businesses qualify for a BOP. A BOP only covers small, low-risk businesses. Some of the criteria that should be met include the following;
The business should have fewer than 100 employees
The business should have a tiny workplace
It should also be a business operating in a low-risk industry
As a translator, you may need to travel constantly. Therefore, you need travel insurance which can cover costs such as;
Loss of property
Detention
Emergency medical expenses
Personal liability
Also, consider getting this insurance for your employees, especially when traveling. Travel insurance will help protect your business from incurring additional unexpected costs associated with travel.
You can add some add-ons to your travel insurance providing coverage not covered in the basic plan. They include;
Rental vehicle excess cover
Ticket cancellation benefit
Pet sitting benefit
Auto accidents are common. Even though you hire the best drivers, they still contend with other incompetent drivers. An auto accident can cost you tens of thousands of dollars, and commercial auto insurance is necessary for your business. Commercial auto insurance can cover litigation costs, medical bills, property damage, and other expenses from an auto accident.
There are some add-ons to the commercial auto insurance cover that may increase the level of protection afforded to you;
Roadside assistance can cover repairing your company's vehicle when it breaks down
Rental reimbursement can cover renting a vehicle when yours is being repaired
The vehicles covered under commercial auto insurance cover are those that your business owns. Commercial auto insurance coverage doesn't cover personal cars.

Use anyone except Employers. Period. They are non-transparent and shameful. After I complained long enough to warrant a call from a supervisor, the supervisor called back from a PRIVATE NUMBER (no caller ID), left a message that they are not reversing their decision (without any communication with me), and failed to leave a phone number for me to call back. She was hiding! They also fact find via email and phone calls, which is terrific for speed and communication. However, after setting a precedence of email or phone calls, they send time sensitive information via email, without any heads up... they are hoping you miss it and forfeit via expiration. Evil policies. Go elsewhere.
This place is an absolute joke of a company and should be ashamed of the way they conduct business. I was hurt on the job at the end of July and it took them just shy of 7 weeks to issue out a paycheck to me. Yes the amount was back dated but still. Not many have the luxury of not receiving a paycheck for almost 2 months. To top it all off, the original adjuster marked me down for the wrong state which caused a problem from the get go, I've had 3 different adjusters now since each one can't seem to figure out the simplicity of my claim. All my paperwork which includes, my job, house, and drs visits all are from the same state and city but yet some how I have been filed under a completely different state 1500 miles away. They do not answer your phone calls or emails no matter how many you leave. I've had to escalate my frustrations to the supervisors of each of these individuals in order to even get some kind of response. I've had more communication and information given to me about my claim from the customer service representatives then the actual adjusters.......... please tell me how that works?! A serious overhaul needs to happen here in order to serve your clients the way they deserve to be taken care of. 10/10 do not recommend this company to a single soul on earth
I have never had the displeasure of working with a more incompetent and disrespectful person in my life. I’m an injured worker and the adjuster that was assigned to my case was named Carrie Furgeson. In the past 6 weeks that I’ve been injured and out of work I have only been able to get ahold of her twice, not for lack of trying. I have left countless voicemails, countless emails, and she ignores them all. When I am finally able to get ahold of her I’m greeted with terrible customer service. She is rude, she talks over me and I’m hardly able to get a word in edgewise. She spelled my name wrong on my documents even after I spelled it for her properly countless times, this caused a whole new issue with my bank. I have bill collectors from the hospital calling me demanding payment and Carrie Furgeson won’t do a single thing to help, or to get them paid. All of my documentation is in Colorado, my job is in Colorado, my address is in Colorado, all my Dr offices and appointments have been in Colorado and Carrie still managed to hold my claim because she wasn’t sure what state she needed to file it under. It’s been 6 weeks since my Injury and my company still hasn’t received the wage paperwork to fill out so they can get me my correct wages. When she’s not ignoring me she’s answering my questions with “I don’t know” well I don’t know how she got this job, because apparently she doesn’t know anything about it. She is a disgusting morose individual inside and out and I genuinely wish her the worst in all of her future endeavors. I highly recommend you don’t use this company. Please if you are a business owner and your looking into this company please don’t use them. I’m sure they have the cheapest payment and that’s why companies use them in the first place, but you will be doing your employees a grave disservice by forcing them to venture into this absolute dumpster fire of a company. I would rate 0/5 if possible but 1 was the lowest I was allowed.
Their general liability insurance purchase process is simply the best online experience I've ever had in my life!
As long as they cover your line of business, you're literally covered! best rates, best coverage, best online experience, best professionals, can't be happier that I chose them!
